Shivarathri is known as Shiva's night and is the night before New Moon, next night is when the Moon is at 360 in front of the Sun this is also known as Amavasya
Amāvásyā means the lunar phase of the New moon in Sanskrit. Ancient Babylonian, Greek and Indian calendars used 30 lunar phases, called tithi in India. The dark moon tithi is when the Moon is within the 12 degrees of angular distance between the Sun and Moon before conjunction. Wikipedia
On this night there is something special that is happening at Isha Yoga Center 112foot Adi Yogi statue. One can come experience the locals offerings to Shiva in the form of traditional dance, drums play in a fast indian rhythms, a night that can't not be described in words but I will let the photos take you in to this place.
A place of celebration among locals and international Ishas all coming together in one place at the same time to enjoy this beautiful evning in the presance of Adi Yogi.
